Cloud providers do not charge to upload data, but they charge to download or transfer data out of their network. Egress traffic costs can become the single largest expense for media or data-heavy systems.
GOTCHA Using public IPs instead of private IPs inside your VPC forces traffic out to the internet, triggering egress charges even when talking between local servers.

01 Ingress upload uploading 10TB of photos to S3 costs $0.00 in network fees.
02 Internal transfer transferring data between servers in different Availability Zones charges per GB.
03 Egress download users download photos. Provider charges $0.09 per GB to exit their network.
